This clue works best in houses that have rooms with several doors that give different ways of getting from room to room. If the room layout is very linear (hall to lounge to kitchen) then this type of clue may not work very well.
Treasure hunters are given instructions such as “From here pass through only 3 doorways and up/down 10 steps to get to the lounge to receive your next clue.”. The treasure hunters must then determine the order of which doorways to pass through and which steps to navigate to get from their location to the lounge.
This clue needs careful planning to make sure that there is a valid solution, and that the solution isn’t immediately obvious (e.g. there are decisions about which doorway to take in each room).
